inspirational poem, Poetry

This poem was written to honour all the people in my life who have inspired me to pursue my dreams.  I am eternally grateful for my friends who have stood with me as I have come through my dark valleys, my emotional pain and turmoil, my anguish as things that have been close to me have fallen away.  This poem honours those who have been there as I have picked up the pieces and have started to pursue the things that I have enjoyed again.  One particular friend was instrumental in getting me out of my emotional prison by constantly sending me email and Blackberry messages about places I could go to get out of the house.  And, when I did go, she was cheering me on.  She still doesn’t think that what she did was so special, but this poem is especially dedicated to her.  Thanks Ashanti….

You gave me strength to make the first step.

Encouraged me forward, pointed the way.

I had no idea how to start my journey.

My heart peeked out – not wanting to be hurt again.

But then you smiled.

I took a chance. Your laugh brightened the room –

Radiant sun condensed into one brilliant moment.

My journey had begun.

Across the sea you guided –

Opened doors I never knew existed:

Encouraged my turtle heart to shed its shell

And soar with unused wings of confidence

Into blazing sky of possibility…

I exulted in your praise.

I stood upon your shoulders –

Even though you probably didn’t even notice ..

As from there I flew off…

You – my inspiration, my muse.

Your advice sought, your counsel heeded.

And all I can say is:

Thank you.
