poetic challenge, serious poem

Mission Statement

All this week a couple friends and I are at a poetry workshop, where we are honing our craft with some awesome instruction. The essence of one of our exercises was as follows:

You are an out of work muse who has inspired and architect and a car designer and now is going to inspire a poet.  Write how you want to inspire the poet and be intentional about it. Make it your personal poetic mission statement.

I really liked this assignment.  And this is what I came up with – my MISSION STATEMENT.

Mission Statement

I am feeling.

I am fire.

I am ecstasy.

I am desire.

I am anger.

I am disgust.

I am fear.

I am PASSION.

Update – I wrote this as I said above, for a poetry workshop. But I’m submitting it to The Gooseberry Garden this week because, although the poem is originally about my Muse, I have taken on the persona of Passion for myself.  I have started performing my poetry on stage more, and have taken on PassionPoet as my stage name (or just Passion to my friends.)  I am absolutely passionate about anything to do with poetry, and, passionate poetry does not always HAVE to be sexual.  So, it’s an oldie, but a goodie. Enjoy!

  1. I am a short skirt.

    I am a push-up bra.

I am a lady who knows what men like.

    Poet or otherwise.

    You men are all alike.

    Hahahaha… just messin’ with ya.

Hugs, hope all is well! : )

  6. That’s a pretty thorough and fabulous mission statement, there! I think we’ll all have to bring our “A” game now! :o)

  7. i wasnt sure where to write this–but have a CHALLENGE for you–i know last year you picked a “word” for the new year to inspire you–instead of a so called resolution–i challenge you to pick another word this year–and write a poem about it
