Haiku

I usually have a neat title for my poems … but this is more a cry of my heart right now rather than a well thought out piece that has been inspired through some other media.  So this is just titled…   Haiku Rain veils secret tears Jagged flash slices night sky Heart bloody – … Continue reading

Two Forms: Inspired

I’m accustomed to writing free verse, and more recently, spoken word pieces. On this occasion I wanted to try something new – so I wrote a haiku… (Didn’t mean to rhyme there!)  Anyhow, I had a flash of inspiration, so I  free flowed a poem in my regular style, then transformed it into a haiku. … Continue reading

Connoisseur

On the heels of my silver awarded poem Luscious, I wanted to write another poem in the same vein and with the same style.  I can’t say any more without giving it away, so please enjoy… Connoisseur Fingers playing under pleated skirt Caressing folds of dark, dusky desire I sample scented rosebud, taking you in. … Continue reading

Chance Meeting…

I met an old friend in KFC the other day and went back to work and penned this on the fly – just tweaking my poetic muscles 🙂 Chance Meeting in KFC Flashing green eyes sparkle behind me Mesmerize me all over again Like if we were still teens And I was too shy (and … Continue reading

Interrupted

Luscious

This is a rewrite of my poem “Luscious: An Ode” that I have entered into our national arts competition NIFCA – the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts.  It has been entered into the Literary Arts (along with Goblet and Rain, also on this site) as well as the Performing Arts section as a spoken word … Continue reading

HEAT

Written for the BBM Poetry Group Challenge: Love or Lust HEAT Flash fire blazes with stoked liquid heat Stroked rhythmic beat evokes faster expressions of desire’s connections As passion ignites setting bush alight with stick’s frenzied friction against pleasure’s lighter fluid Rising heat forces shedding sheets Sweating skin Burning lips Churning hips Yearning within To … Continue reading

Innocence

This poem was inspired by the Troy Davis saga – a black man accused of killing a white cop and held for a murder charge.  Although most of the prosecution’s witnesses recanted or contradicted their earlier evidence, and although Troy continued to maintain his innocence, he was executed by lethal injection on September 21, 2011. … Continue reading
