Resurrection

My BBM Poetry Group Challenge – We all had to write a poem outside our comfort zones.  I write a lot of sensual/erotic pieces, and so my Challenge was to write ‘No sex/heartache, no economy of words (a term we use to describe the deliberate cutting out of unnecessary words), has to be descriptive and from someone else’s persona.’  I must admit it was liberating to write in longer sentences again hehe … Here’s my piece….

Resurrection

Responsibility held a knife, slashing Muse’s wrists,

Causing poetic arteries to gush in a fountain of red ink.

Stumbling, Muse was losing too much blood.

No crafted capilliaries causing careful catharsis!

Extreme exsanguination

Caused crashing on cold concrete considerations:

Bills, jobs, taking care of the young ‘uns…

And underneath, Muse screams – yet no one hears –

As chilling chores constrict her creative currents;

Slashing imagination’s jugular with murderous intent,

Ignoring muse’s screams to cease, desist – relent.

Responsibility slashed creativity’s wrist, seeking sanctuary

But failed to notice the loaded gun held by Creativity:

*BOOM!*

“I will not be contained!

Constrained!

Restrained by the wrappings and trappings of living!

Will not be giving all till I can’t call out in bliss

As I see a sun rise or sun set, or kiss

The colours of a rainbow’s arch:  Inspiration will not die!

I will survive: I am Immortal….”

Creativity’s blood flow did not kill my Muse

But she rose from the floor – unharmed, and bemused

And inspired to go again…

And writing outside your comfort zone is good; stretches you as a writer.

‘No crafted capilliaries causing careful catharsis!’
