I’m back with another haiku … still trying out new forms and working them till I’m comfortable with them. This one came from a friend’s conversation, where she likened love to a butterfly that alights on your shoulder – so delicate, but so close you can see it’s intricacies. So, this is inspired by and dedicated to my beautiful friend Itrina….
Alight (Haiku)
Butterfly sets down
Flower in full bloom opens
Sipping nectar now.

Haiku’s are a really interesting form of poetry for me. I think it takes just as much creativity to say everything you want to say in such little space. Actually, that sort of reminds me of Twitter too. Maybe that’s a techie’s version of a Haiku.

Maybe it is! Twitter – the techie’s Haiku 😀 That sounds like a new poem hehe Will mull it over 🙂
Thanks! And I’m glad you liked the poem 🙂 I think it takes even MORE creativity to say exactly what you want with this form – you are so restricted; it really makes you work at justifying every single word. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

You definitely got the nature part of the hailing form down; however, the traditional haiku also has a revelation of some sort rather than just a seemingly apt description of a natural scene. In other words, it’s usually a metaphor. This is what makes them so difficult to write. Read up on some of the greats and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Keep writing!

Yeah I know what you mean…I thought that if I introduced an emotion like love it would make the haiku into a senryu. I did want the butterfly to be a metaphor for love, as I hinted in the intro to the poem… maybe I’ll look into it some more.
