True Beauty

I’ve been practicing my short poems for a little while, and I send a friend of mine a poem every morning – sort of like our wake up tradition. She calls the poems her Wordshine, as the daily words bring sunshine smiles to her face! She is going to be a part of a local production called S.P.E.A.K.  (Sisters Promoting Empowerment (through) Artistic Kinship coming up soon.  (For those in Barbados, it is going to be part of the Girlfriends’ Expo, showing Sunday February 5th, 2011 at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.)  When I saw this photo of my friend ITrina, I fell in love with it!  She has put it as her BBM pic as well, and looking at the photo again I came up with this poem, which I sent her as soon as it was  done. All props must also go to Mr. Tracey Greenidge, who was the photographer who captured this awesome photo, as well as to Cher Corbin – my good friend and awesome poet alongside him – who did the makeup!

True Beauty...

True Beauty

You are the epitome

of sensuality

the template from which

Aphrodite

stole her glory!

Your beauty  constantly

stuns me

and I remember to breathe

hesitantly

not wanting any sudden movement

to spoil the moment

for me!

  4. How Divine! Short…but it’s one of those pieces that says more by saying less. I love this!

  11. Delicate and lovely! Just this side of sensual….a good usage of so few words, and in that simplicity, you have done very, very well.

  12. When you forget to breathe, time passes slowly while your brain stores the memory, to be played over and over again. That’s when poems are written. Your poem is beautiful.

  16. Brian Miller said it, “the template from which Aphrodite stole her glory!” – definitely scored one with that line.
