Poetry, serious poem

Helpless

I was trying to figure out what to post for Open Link Night over at Dverse, and I found this forgotten piece.  It was another brain dump – not knowing how to help a friend.  It’s not my most creative work, but since my brain seems to be on creative hiatus and there’s nothing new coming to mind – I give you ….

Helpless

Heavy tears lose balance

fall from

Eyelids’ precipice

Fall screaming into sorrow’s chasm

Inky darkness

No light found

Helpless, I stand

Trying desperately to hang on

But clinging only to strings

Left as fragile fabric frays

and heart falls away

voice ripped from open maw

Scream sucked into pain’s abysmal

Vacuum.

No way to catch falling tears

No way to save broken heart

No way to mend broken lives

It’s too late.

I kneel

And

Cry.

  2. If this is you on a creative hiatus, I can’t wait for the creativity binge!

    Love the lines:

‘No way to catch falling tears

No way to save broken heart

No way to mend broken lives’

  3. Yeah–when stuff like this happens, I think this feeling is universal. Very nice alliteration.

    • Thanks Hedge! I read it aloud and was surprised at how good it sounded 🙂 I usually don’t read my work aloud … I hear it in my head when I write it, and then get totally blown away when I do read it – hearing it gives it that 3rd dimension, you know?

  4. in the humility of kneeling maybe you will find your answer…the feeling of helplessness sucks man…knowing that you can do nothing in the moment…have felt that a few times in life….

  5. I’m posting Aaron Kent’s tweet (he says for some reason he can’t comment on the poem directly today – what’s up with that WordPress…) Anyway, he said,

“I love it, if this is you on a creative hiatus I can’t wait for the creativity binge. Love the lines:

    Thanks so much Aaron!!!!!!

  6. It’s so sad when with the best will in the world, you can’t help someone who needs your help, especially if it’s a good friend, because we do tend to love our best friends too. I felt the angst in you, in this which means it came across really well.

  7. I don’t think this poem lacks any creativity…I did feel the pain and sorrow you concisely conveyed, and I say bravo. Feeling helpless is quite frustrating, however one sometimes seems to find a way to help a friend in ways they did not expect or foresee =]

  16. HELPLESS!!!! – sometimes it just creeps up on us… being human inevitability leaves us that way, from the time we are born till we die, there will always be that moment being “helpless”.
