Sleeping Indigo

I was asked to be a part of an art show called Juvesence, where young teenagers in the art programme in secondary school have displayed their work. Myself and a couple other poets and artistes were invited to use some of the work as inspiration to create our own pieces. I was stunned at the work of Ms Ashley Benjamin – especially her painting DREAM – and I used it as my muse for the below piece.  It’s a flight of fantasy…. oh, just enjoy the poem!

Ashley Benjamin's Dream

Sleeping Indigo

Sensual eyes close,

soul slips slowly into blissful rest

The best time for flying is at night

Wings flutter – fairy takes flight,

gazing across fantasy’s horizon.

She glides towards the spinning wheel

where dreams are spun

Illusions have only just begun!

Nothing is as it seems in dreams…

Indigo rests before dreamscape’s screen

Swirling clouds part, curtains on stage

 moon’s spotlight beam shining white

engaging fantasy’s squeal of delight

as Indigo watches dreams take flight

while she lays serenely on downy bed –

and crunches popcorn…

  2. The painting is beautiful. I can almost hear the woman breathing. And the poem gives even more life to her. The popcorn caught me off guard tho lol!
