Morning Ritual

I am letting you into a secret world – the world where I declare my love for my baby daily. I write her a note every day telling her I love her – either a letter or a poem.  About two days ago, I was musing on this particular practice and decided that my morning email would be about that same very topic. So, I give you…

Morning Ritual

My desire lights a fire
under my pen
Inspires a verse
to spring unhindered
From my thoughts
A carefree deer
Bounding from word
To word
Skipping happily
Through syllables
Climbing rocky pinnacles
To the climactic summit.

Thinking of you lets verses
Fly free
The most beautiful poetry
Flows from my heart and goes
Straight home to roost on yours
A homing pigeon with
My latest love letter
Strapped to its leg.

I think of you and words dance
On the page
Cavorting on the stage of
Our attraction
My words vie for your attention
One smile from you
Is an honourable mention
And I collect my prize
Staring at your eyes
And sharing passion
With a fiery kiss.

Thoughts become words
Expressed as verse
Until pages are filled
And my heart is stilled
Until the next thought comes
And stirs my heart anew
To start the cycle again…

    • My first poetic ‘nickname’ was the “Looooooove Man” when I was a teen / young adult … at a monthly poetry reading called Voices Writers Collective … the then coordinator Sandra Sealy always drew out the Loooooove when she was introducing me lol
