This poem was written last year when I was deciding to embrace change in my life. I was redefining who I was and who I wanted to be, and I was at the time listening to my friend Ras Bash’s song “I AM LION” almost every day, sort of like a meditation for the day. I was deciding that I would not let anyone dictate to me how I was supposed to think, and I wrote this piece. It sat down for nearly a year before I decided today to publish it because I thought that maybe I could add to it (it’s a short piece), but I decided that, no, it is saying exactly what I want it to say. I also wrote it inspired by the lion’s head image I found, which is included in this post. For anyone who needs an inspirational message, this poem is for you!
Proud Leo
Proud Leo, Regal King
Stand tall, survey your terrain
Throw head back, shake your mane –
and ROAR!
Confidence adorns you like a crown
not weak not afraid, not looking down
at the floor, wondering if you belong…
You are the ruler of your domain!
Chosen Leader of growing Pride,
Power emanates from every stride!
Every challenger has bled and died
and you have Conquered all!
being a leo…. well said.. let it roar….thank you

As one who thought she had stomached all the change she could handle…and who is still being pulled through the shredder…this was much needed. The image alone made me stronger. Thank you!

“and you have Conquered all”
What a Powerful ending. It makes me think of the battle scene in Chronicles of Narnia with Aslan and his own “It is finished” (without using words and without getting too graphic I’ll just hope you’ve seen it) to show his victory over evil. It’s amazing how
much music inspires us. It’s what keeps us going or a big part of it.

Yes I’ve already seen the Narnia movies … I’m inspired by stuff like that. You have hit the nail on the head … Didn’t think about Aslan when I saw this pic, but yeah it works! 😀
