Continuing on out Author Spotlight we’re going on a Caribbean trip – to the luscious beauty of Antigua. Michelle Toussaint is one of my friends from the Expressions poetry group. She has written her first book of poetry, “Now Taking a Lover”, and is navigating the wonderful, yet sometimes perilous, life of an author. Check her Amazon Author page HERE.
This is her story….
Tell us a little about yourself. Who is Michelle Toussaint?
At the risk of sounding cliché I don’t think I can describe myself very accurately. I’m a wife and mother, teacher, foodie, the list goes on. Most of all I think I’m just an ordinary girl, like everyone else, trying to figure everything out.
What got you into writing?
I started writing as a way to vent, you know? As a way to process things and figure things out. For the most part it’s still the reason I do it.
What inspires you? What makes you think, “I have to write about that!”?
Anything and everything. An image, a conversation, a chill in the air, a memory. Could be anything or everything at random.
Is poetry your main focus? Do you write other genres?
I write poetry, and flash fiction, short stories. Whatever feels good that day, or minute to minute LOL. I don’t think any one of us can pin ourselves to a genre, not being the diverse people we are.
What is your writing primarily about?
Ummm….anything, everything I come into contact with. You can pretty much log on to either of my blogs and map my experiences and the trending topics in my world.
How has response been to your current works?
I think all in I’ve been very well received. My first book “Now Taking A Lover” was published last year, and I can’t tell you how much support and love I’ve gotten. I’m really grateful, and really encouraged.
As a young author, what is your most and least favorite part of this business?
Most favorite would be the writing/creating part, maybe even the sharing and feedback, I’ve had lots of positivism coming my way. Least favorite would be the marketing and promotion part. It’s not easy to sell yourself and your work if you are on the shy side, which I most definitely am.
Could you give us a snippet of one of your favorite pieces of work?
My work? No, they are like my kids, how do I choose between them? What’s your favorite?
What are your future plans for your writing?
I honestly don’t know beyond that I know I will continue writing. Where it takes me, or where I take it, is up to fate at the moment. What other projects do you have coming up? I ‘m hoping to launch my first novella soon, provide that I can carve the writing time out of home, work and family.
Thongs or boyshorts? LOL
That depends on how long I’m expected to wear ’em. The more material the longer they stay on.
As you know if you’ve been following … this question starts the naughty side of the interview….
Are you a moaner or screamer?
Both, depending on the mood, the tone, the rhythm, the head space, the physical space, whether or not the kids are sound asleep. lol
What do you like most about sex?
I like the fact that I can have it with someone who enjoys it the way I do, whom I enjoy immensely in ways so much more than sexual and who enjoys me pretty much the same way. I like that it can be fun and light, or deep and heavy, or spontaneous or theatrical. It’s just cool.
What gets you off the quickest during foreplay? lol
There’s such a thing as getting off quick with foreplay, needless to say I like being teased.
