Haven’t written here in a little while… but I have still been writing! Here’s a different topic for a change – and, yes, it’s a brain dump as well…. I’m sure everyone can relate to this poem in some form or fashion… And, although I don’t focus on Halloween, this poem is apt for the season! Enjoy meeting a …
GHOST
Disembodied voice sends chills down unsuspecting spine;
Fear grips with icy fingers, paralyzing the heart.
Whispered words from ancient past terrifies into silence,
Yet soul trapped in a vacuum of words; breath stolen in an instant.
Palpitating modulation of sounds rip away peace carefully cultivated.
As voice drones, serenity is lost.
Away! Foul demon, away!
Fall back into the abyss from whence you came!
Release my ears from the spell your voice weaves!
Away! Foul demon, away!
No longer should you call, my soul is no longer yours to claim
I have severed the ties that bound us, seeking my freedom
Your plaintive cries shall no longer seal my spirit in your crypt!
Your poorly disguised threats no longer hold sway; I shall not fear your minions!
I am away! Released! Do not call again!

ah if only the ghosts would listen when we call them out…we must confront them though to drive them away….perfectly spine tingling for the season…

“released” … is it that easy? Is it that we hold them here? Interesting.

In fact, this piece is a metaphor … an unwanted call from my ex-girlfriend… so the ‘release’ is that I wanted her to let me go and not try to use ’emotional blackmail’ incantations to tie me down.

Always good when one can find a way to keep the ghosts at bay & to let them know they are no longer welcome (if they ever were).

Is this really about a ghost – or is it about skeletons in cupboards? I think that ghosts – if they exist – are far easier to break free from than our past behaviours and relationships.
